Mozillaの推進するプロジェクトの一つ"Webmaker(詳しくはこちら)"
のメンターの求められることについて、Mozilla Foundation のChief Storytellerである、

の翻訳です。
〜今年のWebmakerの目標〜
ユーザー・ベースを大きく発展させるために、
今年、Webmakerは大きな２つの目標があります。
１、メイカー：Web上で何か創造的に作り・発信し始めた人
２，メンター：makerスピリットを持った、熱狂的な教師であり技術者であり、デジタルスキルの向上に熱心な人。
〜2013年には何が必要か〜
去年には、世界中に１０００人程度のインストラクターがいるほどに、メンターのコミュニティは発展した。
Summer Code PartyやMozilla Festivalに参加したり、Webmaekrのツールの開発に貢献したり、自らイベントを企画したり、ガイドを教えたり
そのような場にメンターは集まってきた。
このポストは、Laura Hilliger, Michelle Thorneは８０人以上のメンターにインタビューを行い、その内容を要約しています。
特に、Lauraの素晴らしい最初のポストは、Webmaker community callのフィードバックにまとめてあります。
１，リソースが見つけづらい。
Webmakerで提供されているツールや、イベントキッツ、活動のガイドがまず見つけづらい。
結果として多くのメンターは、イベントを始めたり、初めて教えるときに障害があったり、自信をなくすことがあるといっている。また、独自の議題をデザインすることがあるという。
・原因：混乱させた原因は次のことだろう。2012年に、私たちは“messy in the back, tidy in the front”な戦略に注目した。これは、暫定のドキュメントがetherpads, blog posts, wikis,prototype pageに分散していることを意味している。
・少しでも解決するために：統合し、整理し、それを配信すること。メンターとこれを行う必要があるだろう。
NEXT STEPS: Make our mentor resources more discoverable, simple and remixable.
- Discoverable: Easier to find from Webmaker.org. (See Jess Klein’s post on IA). Right now there’s no easy path from Webmaker.org’s front page to our mentor resources. (As in: none at all.)
- Low-hanging fruit: ship version 0.1 of “webmaker.org/mentor” this quarter.
- Simplify and add summaries: Right now, the “hacktivity kits” are overflowing with detail. To pull more mentors in, they need a more streamlined overview of the learning objectives and activities included.
- Remixable: Easy ways to remix, reshuffle, and re-post agendas and activities. So that mentors can customize them to their own needs.
- Tagging? Webmaker projects inlclude tags that make it easy to sort by skill (HTML, CSS, Javascript) and topics (music, games, photography, etc). Maybe mentor resources should as well, to find what you’re interested in faster?
