The southernmost point of Japanese mainland

Okay, let's start day 2!

Before I forget everything...

I visited the southernmost point of Japanese mainland, Shiono-Misaki(Cape Shionomisaki).

Shionomisaki viewing tower.

It had been already there when I first visited this place with my coworker on my first motorcycle thirty years ago.

And now there's a new institution which is specialized in the geography of this area.

f:id:kogikuya:20240309182622j:image

You can see the geological conditions of Wakayama. It's very unique and interesting!

The red painted areas are also famous for the hot-springs. That explains why!

That area consists of the igneous rock bodies.

And the red line in the bottom is the area along Koza river. There's a world famous Ichimai Iwa Monolith of Koza.

Oh! Never forget the Rocket!

(They have been planning to launch a rocket from this area TODAY! Unfortunately they had to cancel today's flight for some reasons)

Nachi falls ③

Oops! It's been a week already since my last post.

I'm continuing my travel memory.

After leaving Nachi-Taisha shrine, I kept going down the steep hill to the Nachi Falles.

Stop by and climb up to the top of three-story pagoda on the way.

f:id:kogikuya:20240304182546j:image

And going down the cobbled slop again.

f:id:kogikuya:20240304182530j:image

Finally!

But still It's an entrans gate of Nachi-Falles shrine.
f:id:kogikuya:20240304182542j:image

And still need to walk down the stone stairs...

It was killing my knees!

Ta-da!

It is said that sometimes you can see a Diety of Mercy.

Can you?
Please watch closely if you are interested in.

f:id:kogikuya:20240304182550j:image

You can drink the water from the Fall.f:id:kogikuya:20240304182526j:image

f:id:kogikuya:20240304182539j:image

Water from the fall taste soft and sweet.

I really enjoyed the blessings of nature.

The amount of water fall was quite low since it was in winter, but even so, the very good atmosphere was everywhere which washed away the old me and made me feel refreshed!

f:id:kogikuya:20240304182534j:image

Do you know how much I go up and up!?

79 stories high!

Incredible!
It's more than the Japanese highest building of 64 stories.

f:id:kogikuya:20240304182934p:image

Nachi-falls ②

It's been almost a week since my last post.

I had a tough week and spent whole day in bed for these two days.

Now let's get back to my travelogue.

f:id:kogikuya:20240225184614j:image

After walking through the rock staircase, there were another staircase to climb.

f:id:kogikuya:20240225184618j:image

And another stairways.

Finally got to the entrance of Kumano-Nachi Taisha(shrine)!
f:id:kogikuya:20240225184621j:image

f:id:kogikuya:20240225184624j:image

But there were still stairs waiting for us.

Now it's a real goal! Kumano Nachi shrine!

Kumano Nachi Taisha is one of the three main shrines in Kumano district of Wakayama, and those are all world heritage sites.

Several years ago my husband and I visited Kumano Hongu Taisha on our motorcycles. We wanted to visit two other Kumano three but we run out of time unfortunately.

This time I suddenly got an idea to visit there by train and walk just a month before the trip.

I didn't know that there would be such many stairways ahead of me.

(Just for your reference, the bus from Kiikatsuura station goes to directly to the Shrine. It would be much better for your knees and legs!!)

Looking back the path we took to get there. The shrine is really high in the mountains!

To be continued.

Next time, I will finally reach the fall.

Visiting Nachi falls and Kumano Kodo

On the last three days off, I visited Nachi-falls and Kii-Oshima by train.

This is the train I got on!

"Kuroshio" the limited express runs from Kyoto to Shingu City in Wakayama.

The first Kuroshio of the day was of special Panda design! How lucky!

It was actually a good beginning.

f:id:kogikuya:20240219200305j:image

I took a bus from Kii-Katsuura station to Daimon-zaka slope.

Uh oh, it's time to go today.

To be continued to the next post.

Coffee shop hopping

I fell asleep before I noticed, after dinner on Thursday & Friday.

I was exhausted from overtime work this week.

I woke up around one oclock in the morning, on the floor, without Futon.

My husband was also asleep next to me. So I woke him up and took him to the bed right away.

It was around noon next time we woke up.

We had such a long sleep for the first time in a while, but it didn't overcome our lack of sleep. We kept yawning for a couple hours after that.

To start our day, we went for a good coffee hunting.

Along with our cups of coffee, we had hot sandwiches!

↓ Ham & Ham & Cheese sandwich for my husband.

f:id:kogikuya:20240217225208j:image

↑ Keema curry(minced meat curry)  sandwich for myself.

f:id:kogikuya:20240217225159j:image

After having a cup of coffee and sandwich, I went up to north for another cup of coffee.

To my altime favorite cafe, Anzuya.

Now there is a photo exhibition of a Rakugo performer, Katsura Koume, who is also a train photographer.  I like his photos of seanery with trains and have been enjoying his exhibition every year.

Today's kimono and obi.

Aizu momen(cotton) kimono and Han-haba obi.

Isn't this lovely?

f:id:kogikuya:20240217225202j:image

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It's St. Valentine's Day today.

Japanes people have been bothered by the weired custom to give ”courtesy chocolate" to male co-workers on the Valentine's day for long time. Both those who gave and those who received chocolate were annoyed by that event.

Things have been changed for these several years.  That strange custom is completely out of date.

On the other hand, looking back myself, I used to give chocolate to my husband until some time ago I don't remember when.

Today, I got this for him on my way home from work.

Chocolate croissant.

I found this when I passed by a bakery and remembered that it was St. Valentine's day today.

f:id:kogikuya:20240214204529j:image

And my husband cook this for me.

Chiken stuffed turnips.

So good! His cooking skil is getting better and better recently.

f:id:kogikuya:20240214204535j:image

Pork Ginger

Last night I fell asleep before finishing the article and skipped posting one time.

I made "pork ginger" for the second try with our iron pan.

Udes sweet pickled ginger in this recipe instead of grating fresh ginger.(bottom right)

f:id:kogikuya:20240213221757j:image

At the beginning, heat the pan over high heat until it's warm.

Grease the pan and reduce the heat to low.(below pic)

Then put pork in the pan.
f:id:kogikuya:20240213225524j:image

When the color of pork start changing, put vegies(onion and Shimeji-mushurooms) in the pan and cook them until the onion and mushroom are soft.f:id:kogikuya:20240213221801j:image

Pour sugar, Mirin, Japanese Sake, and soy sauce on them and turn up to midium heat.

f:id:kogikuya:20240213225551j:image

Cook down the sauce until it becomes thick, then put pickled ginger in the pan and stir them well.
f:id:kogikuya:20240213221809j:image

Done!
f:id:kogikuya:20240213221752j:image

Not bad.

Pork was so tender and it didn't stick to the pan at all.

My first pork ginger in the iron pan turned out perfect!

I'm so satisfied with this finish.
